Alexander Chalke

Position: Managing Director

Alex has more than 15 years’ experience as a trusted, well-respected executive search professional, with a proven track record of delivering quality assignments at operational and management levels, across all main disciplines focused on the energy sectors, including Oil & Gas, Power, Renewables and Financial Services. Successful geographical search placements include Australia, Asia, Africa, South America, Europe and the United Kingdom.

As the Managing Director of Hydrocarbon Search Partners Alex leads on business development, customer relationship and account management, while taking an oversight role on HCSPs’ intelligent search and selection methodologies and diverse assignment portfolio.

Drawing from his expansive talent networks, he is committed to supporting industry leaders in cultivating a more diverse and inclusive workforce and to bringing more balance to the global energy economy and its sub-sectors.

Prior to establishing HCSP, Alex held a number of senior substantive and consultancy roles within the executive search industry and has built his reputation around a meticulous, caring and discreet approach to meeting both clients’ and candidates’ needs.

Currently a member of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB) the London Geological Society and the Institute of Directors.

Tim Shingler

Position: Partner

Tim is a seasoned energy professional having spent over 40 years working in the oil industry. Starting his career with Shell Expro he built a good understanding of the North Sea oilfields and associated operators, forging long-term relationships with regional companies and joint venture partners.

After Shell, Tim joined a commercial information and data analysis enterprise, building a number of the company’s core products and enlarging the client base, before assisting with the transfer of the team into James Capel & Co., Europe’s largest stockbroker. The team then developed the Petroleum Services Group, expanding the product line and introducing digital data to new markets and a growing international client list.

A move into Arthur Andersen’s London office led to exponential growth, development of global digital products, including PetroView, and new outposts in Singapore, Houston, Perth and Rio de Janeiro.

Since 2003, Tim has specialised in the international recruitment of technical and commercial professionals, firstly with MNA Global and then with Grosvenor Clive and Stokes and Hydrocarbon Search Partners.

Steve Adams

Position: Partner

Steve is a dynamic and enthusiastic geoscience and energy professional with over 37 years of global experience across the upstream energy lifecycle. He brings a wealth of experience in recruiting highly successful candidates to graduate, technical, leadership and management roles.

Steve’s career started in the UK, working for bp before joining Lasmo, managing technical and leadership functions in the North Sea, Vietnam, Italy, and Venezuela. A return to the North Sea then followed with Eni and CNR International before moving to South East Asia where Steve held Technical and Business Development leadership roles in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Steve’s most recent opportunities, before joining Hydrocarbon Search Partners, included leading a team working on oil and gas developments in Mozambique, undertaking multiple global reserves audits and reservoir audits for TRACS International and developing training courses.

Steve has a BSc in Geology from the University of Durham, an MSc in Petroleum Geology from Imperil College London, and an MBA from RGU, Aberdeen. Steve is a member of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain and the Edinburgh Geological Society. Steve is also currently an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen researching the geology of Scotland’s East Coast.

Tania Shirvell

Position: Head of Research

Tania joined HCSP at its inception and supports both Alex and Tim in helping to identify and evaluate prospective candidates.

Drawing on her distinguished 25-year aviation career and wealth of experience in crew welfare and customer service, Tania is well placed to lead on HCSP’s personnel research, counsel and coaching services, using her innate people skills to identify the most appropriate candidates from our extensive talent pool, nurture and support them through the recruitment process.

Clients and candidates face different challenges when attempting to fill energy sector roles in often remote, unfamiliar parts of the world. One of our USPs is the first-hand knowledge of local cultures and customs Tania brings to the business, coupled with excellent communication throughout the selection process and a genuine, caring approach to ensuring both client and candidate experience a smooth start to their working relationship.

Candice Colin

Position: Consulting Partner

Candice joined HCSP as a consultant researcher in July 2021.

Her interest and experience in the energy sector has matured throughout her 10 years in banking and commodities, working for Bank of America Merrill Lynch among others. A move into a commodities-focused executive search firm saw Candice develop her expertise within the recruitment industry before establishing her own research consultancy in 2017, supporting boutique executive search firms across the energy sector.

Her effective communication and organisation skills combined with her ability to build long- lasting relationships, resulting in a portfolio of global sourcing assignments and executive placements for some of the biggest names in the industry.

Now a valued partner of HCSP, Candice uses her in-depth knowledge and talent-sourcing strategies to great effect, networking with potential hires and businesses to find the very best available candidates in the market. Her genuine passion and commitment to adding value to the HCSP offering is intrinsic to all her work.
